About Waverley Abbey

Waverley Abbey is a peaceful English Heritage site featuring the stone ruins of a 12th-century monastery surrounded by riverside meadows and woodland paths near Farnham. Unlike larger castle or cathedral attractions, the appeal here comes from the setting and atmosphere, with the remains sitting low in the landscape beside the River Wey. The site works especially well as part of a countryside walk, with open space, picnic areas and nearby trails giving it a calmer, less tourist-heavy feel than many historic landmarks.
